My name is Brendan Kenny and I am a 34 year old teacher from Tipperary, Ireland. I was a mainstream 5th class (Year 6) teacher in Nenagh CBS Primary School, Co Tipperary, for 10 years. In my final year there, I set up the school website (www.nenaghcbsp.ie) and Twitter account (@nenaghcbsp), which is one of the most followed primary school Twitter accounts in Ireland. In September 2013, I moved to London and began my current role as Head of Computing in St Martin’s School, an independent boys school with almost 400 pupils. Here I teach all Computing lessons from Years 1 – 8. I also teach Year 5 Maths, Year 5 & 6 Games lessons, as well as being a Year 5 Form Tutor.
I was a PDST (Professional Development Service for Teachers) Scratch Programming tutor in Ireland from 2012 to 2014 and I occasionally mentor Scratch at various Coder Dojos around London. I am also a member of Code Club Pro.
I run a variety of educational blogs: Scratch Resources +, My Scratch homepage, Shackleton & Endurance 2016, Mr Kenny’s ICT, St Martin’s ICT Learning Wall – I was one of the first adopters of the Learning Wall by Schudio after my first visit to BETT in 2014 and we have the highest traffic in the UK through such a site)
My other main interests are the Irish sport of hurling and all GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) related activities and amateur drama (I am currently preparing for my first show, One Man, Two Guvnors). I’ve also like to run, play wallball and use social media, especially Twitter and Instagram.
